Access Statement


We want your stay at The Briarfields to be as comfortable as possible and the following information should help you decide on whether The Briarfields can meet your needs.

Built in the 1800s, the nature and age of the building presents some physical barriers to accessibility.

Whilst we can accommodate guests with limited mobility, we do not have facilities suitable for those guests who are confined to a wheelchair or struggle with stairs.  There is no passenger lift in the building and all guest bedrooms are located on the first or second floors.

If you do have any special requirements, please do not hesitate to contact us before making a reservation so that we can endeavour to meet your requirements.

PRE-ARRIVAL

  1. We welcome correspondence by phone, letter or email.
  2. Hotel literature and all menus can be provided in a larger font.
  3. A printed route to the hotel can be provided on request.
  4. Torquay and Torre train stations are approx. a half mile from The Briarfields, which is approximately a 15-minute walk from us.
  5. There are usually taxis available at the station or we can arrange to collect you with prior notice.
  6. The Briarfields is strictly a non-smoking environment.

ARRIVAL & PARKING

  1. The tarmac car park is level and is located directly in front of the building.There are 8 marked spaces one for each  guest room.
  2. The car park leads to a small 5cm step to the porch with a further 7cm step into Reception.
  3. Check-in is from 2.30pm to 7.00pm.
  4. The front door has motion detector lighting which is activated out of hours.   The door is kept locked but there is a doorbell for you to notify us of your arrival.
  5. The Reception area is level and carpeted, it contains a console table and a large sofa.The area is well lit.
  6. Assistance with luggage is always available,
  7. All guests are greeted on arrival and are made verbally aware of the location of the breakfast room,which also has clear signage.
  8. Arriving guests can either pre-check in via The Briarfields website or there is a Registration Card placed in the room on arrival.

BREAKFAST ROOM

  1. The Breakfast Room is on the ground floor via level access from Reception.
  2. There is good space in between tables, the chairs are without arms and the tables are square wood.
  3. There are 2 chandelier lights and 4 wall lights, and the floor is carpeted.
  4. Special diets are catered for, but advanced notice is helpful.

BEDROOMS

  1. The B&B has 8 bedrooms located over 2 floors, 4 on the first floor and 4 on the second floor.
  2. On the first floor there are3 bedrooms containing Queen size double beds and one suite with a Super King bed.
  3. The second floor has two suites containing King size beds and 2 Superior Double rooms with King size beds.
  4. There is no passenger liftaccess.The floors are accessed by one of the two staircases from the ground floor reception, there are 17 stairs up to the first floor and a further 17 stairs up to the second.
  5. The hallway is fully carpeted and there is a bannister rail on both sets of stairs.
  6. Duvets and pillows provided as standard, guests can request hypo allergenic. Rooms vary in size and features, please advise us before booking if you have any special requirements.
  7. All rooms are equipped with remote controlled smart TVs.   Free wi-fi is available throughout the building.
  8. All rooms are equipped with fire detection and alarm.
  9. Rooms 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 have airconditioning.
  10. Rooms 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 contain a mini fridge and fresh milk is provided each day.   A small fridge can be provided for rooms 1 and 2 on request.
  11. Mineral water is providedand replenished throughout the stay.
  12. Bedrooms have ample lighting, including above bed lighting and bedside lamps.  Switches are located next to the bed for convenience.

BATHROOMS

  1. All rooms have an en-suite shower & toilet.
  2. There is a 25cm step fromthe floor into the shower cubicle.
  3. Non-slip shower mats are provided in each bedroom.
  4. There are lever taps on all sinks.
  5. All toilets have a push button dual flush system.
  6. Bath sheets, hand towels and bath mats are provided

GENERAL

  1. Emergency assistance isavailable at any time.
  2. Guest requiring assistance in the event of an emergency evacuation must log details on arrival.

Although we have tried to be as accurate and include as much detail as we can in our Access Statement, we are always willing to give information on any aspect of the B&B if this statement does not answer your particular query.
